10 TYPES OF WINE STOPPER or CORK

  1. Natural - The original bottle stopper is the natural cork. It has been favored by winemakers for centuries and it is made from a single piece of high quality cork. It will be used when the piece of cork is boiled down and measured specially for the type of bottleneck.
  1. Colmated - Processed the same way as natural cork and it is made from medium grade cork. The cork bark with a mixture of food resin and cork dust, will seal the pores in other companies. This cork is not meant to hold wine for more than two-years, since it is of lower quality.
  1. Twin Top - Twin top stoppers are not made for long bottle aging, like the colmated cork stopper. This cork is mostly made up of a body of mixed cork pieces, and a whole disc of cork at every end. It also has all the benefits of natural cork stoppers because of the cork discs on either end, it meets the highest demand of cork stoppers.

  1. Champagne - It is a blueprint for the sparkling drinks as a method  to keep the excess air out of the bottle. These cork is one of the difficult cork to make. The manufacturing of this cork requires very accurate steps to perform it correctly without breaking the bottle. The body of champagne is made up of granules with a binder, and has two or three discs sealed at the bottom of the cork. The cork turns into the famous “mushroom”, when it is out in the regular, cylindrical shape of a stopper.
  1. Synthetic - In the winemaking industry, synthetic cork stoppers are the most recent invention. Synthetic cork is made up of synthetic and plastic materials. At the button of this cork has a foam core that helps the wine preserve its flavor. The outer layer is antibacterial and gives no leakage. This cork is promoted for the seal, because it is easy to reapply and retains its shape. The outer layer keeps its shape and the foam in the center acts like memory foam.

  1. Micro - These cork stoppers are said to be the next generation of natural cork, and it is made up of granulated cork of a specific quality with food safe glue. The main distinction is that these stoppers are reserved for wines with greater complexity, such as those aged in unusual barrels or flavored with additional ingredients.
  1. Agglomarated - It is the same as a micro cork stopper, because of its structure, but bigger in granules of cork. Nowadays this is one of the most used corks, because of their low cost of production and long shelf life. These are created for wines that will be drunk in the next six months. These corks are also among the cheapest to produce, and because of their long-lasting structure, they can be used for up to three years.
  1. Conical -  It is known as “tapered cork stoppers”, because of their flexibility and can be used in dissimilar containers and liquid. These stoppers are made up of natural cork and agglomerated; they can be used to reseal a champagne bottle once the old cork has been removed, but they don't provide the same level of taste protection as the original cork. They're also useful because they can be used to seal most bottles without risking breaking the glass.

9 & 10. Wooden and Plastic Bar Top

The most versatile sort of cork stopper is the bar-top cork stopper. Natural or synthetic corks are used to make them. For simple opening, storing, and decoration, the corks are then bonded to a plastic or wooden top. Wine, spices, oils, vinegar, and even cosmetics can all benefit from these stoppers. Custom orders for these stoppers are accepted by several different cork businesses, and they are readily available and inexpensive. Handmade bar-top corks can even be found on the internet.

Origin of Wine Stopper

The cork-based Wine Stopper inventor is unknown. The stoppers date to about the 1600s. The problem of cork taint became prevalent, leading many producers to stop using corks in favor of alternatives. In the early 21st century.
